Regional Assignments 11 Months ago
I understand that assigning teams to regionals is done by location. This is not fair for all teams. This year is a great example in class S softball. Galatia is a great team and will be playing for the state championship this week. They have flat out beat their competition at state by scores of 10-1 and 9-1. I am thrilled that they have won, but it is frustrating to know that they won their semifinal game and championship games by scores of 5-4 and 2-1. To me this shows that their Regional was tougher than the state tournament. I am not trying to take anything away from any team at state, but there were two other teams in Galatia's regional that could be doing well at state also. I believe that the SIJHSAA should try to seed teams to give the best teams a shot to get to state. This should be done in basketball, baseball, softball, and vollyball. It would be the most fair thing to do. Some people say they don't want to have to travel far for a regional game, but I believe that people do want the best teams at state.

I absolutely agree with you. 2 years ago, in softball, they had Herrin, Johnston City and Benton all in the same regional. All 3 of these teams would have been in the top 4 in that years state tourney. What a shame that sometimes the best teams can't even make it out of the regional.

The real injustice is having on 32 teams in both L and M and then everyone else getting dumped into S. Every regional in L and M has only 4 teams in them. Class S can have up to 10 teams in a regional. Not fair in my opinion.

The same thing happens in small school basketball with the regionals, however I do agree on placing the teams geographically. I would like to see 4 classes with a super large class of just 16 teams. All 16 teams go to Rend Lake and play for # 1; then take the next 32 teams for large;then 32 teams medium; then rest small.
