Classess - s, m, L 4 Months, 3 Weeks ago
I was wondering if anyone is questioning or annoyed with the way schools are divided into the S, M, and L classes...I know how it is currently done, but I coach at a small school and we have 9 teams in our regional! All the M and L schools have 4! One middle school I know currently has 3 teams in its regional. I know there are more small schools, but this is getting ridiculous!
Also, In my opinion, some of the small schools from Clinton County can definately defeat the M and L schools I have seen...I wish there was a better way to split up the classes...Maybe there should be 4 classes in volleyball...It seems a little unfair for a school with an enrollment of 90 to play schools with enrollments above 200...The school with an enrollment of 90 may only have 2-4 eigth grade girls when the school with 200+ students may have up to 10-15 girls in a class! This makes a huge difference in the selection of 6 starting players. On my current team, I only have 3-8th graders and 2-7th graders...I wish my school was placed in a very small class where we could play teams that also are forced to play 6th graders on varsity. Just a thought to chew on...Thanks!

I don't think it is fair that class s has nine in in each regional, while others only have 3 or 4. I also think that they need to limit the number of games played by teams who want to participate in the Sijhsaa regional and state. I don't think that it is fair that most teams only play in the spring and play 20-30 games that is including tournaments and having to play almost everyday of the week. While other teams and schools have different rules and can play all year round or fall and spring and play 40-60 games before coming to the sijhsaa regionals. It is impossible for any of us small school who only play in the spring to compete against them. Our girls work just as hard for the two months we have but can't compete against these teams that play twice as many games as we can.I just feel they will never feel the rewards of their hard work, which is getting to go to state. Just wondering if anyone else feels this is a little unfair???

I agree that it is impossible for those of use that only play a spring season to compete against those that play 2 season and a very easy fix is to limit the matches per year that a team participates in. This is already done for basketball and should be an easy convert to volleyball and other sports. Why specific rules for some sports, but not all? My girls work very hard and love to play volleyball and it is discouraging to them to know that they have to face a team that has twice the amount of court experience that they do. That experience cannot be made up for during practice in the months of Jan. through March.
